How can I contact DFWFreeNet?

Is there a mailing list or a forum someplace? Are there regular meetings in the DFW area?

Welcome

DFWFreeNet is a community built, owned and operated free wireless network in the Dallas / Ft. Worth (Texas, USA) area. Founded in 2006, we are a not for profit co-op with the mission of helping to bridge the Digital Divide, providing free wireless Internet access to those where it’s not economically feasible. We need your help to expand the DFWFreeNet network. Even if you don't have broadband Internet access, you can contribute by placing a Meraki access point in your front window, balcony or rooftop, acting as a repeater. The more access points available to the network, the more reliable and resilient it is. Every additional Meraki access point improves DFWFreeNet.

Overview

Our primary consideration with hardware selection was cost, reliability and performance. It is our belief that mesh access points need to be as affordable as possible to ensure self-sustained growth of the network. Below is a description of the hardware platform we eventually settled on, after testing and evaluating numerou…

	* 6/22/06 The first DFWFreeNet mesh access point has been built and is currently being tested. This access point is based on the Mini-ITX platform and is running LocustWorld's MeshAP software.
 * 6/29/06 Testing the LocustWorld MeshAP has gone fairly well, only the weirdness of WIANA (and general lack of documentation) causing any trouble. I don't like being dependant on a 3rd party (WIANA) service and the hardware cost is way too high for widespread adoption. I'm leaning towards a…
